Amorgos Diving Center, in cooperation with Hotel Vigla, Askas Pension and Ms Sofia Vlavianou, hereby announce a weekend of trail running races in Amorgos, with the name “Amorgos Trail Challenge”, under the auspices and jointly organized of the Municipality of Amorgos.

The races included in the Amorgos Trail Challenge event are:

  • Spike race 3 kilometres (in the event of adverse weather conditions that do not allow travel to Nikouria, the organizers reserve the right to transfer the race to an alternative location)
  • Trail running race 18 kilometres
  • Trail running race 7.5 kilometres

The races shall take place according to the following terms & conditions:

  1. Event Dates
    Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September 2017
  2. Start – Finish Lines
    a) 3 km Spike: The start and finish line will be on Nikouria island beach.
    b) 18 km: Start line: the parking area outside Chozoviotissa Monastery. Finish line: Aegiali beach.
    c) 7.5 km: The start and finish line will be on Aegiali beach.
  3. Race Details:
    a) 3 km Spike:
    1st Wave Start Time: 11.00 a.m. *waves every 15 mins

    b) 18 km Race:
    Start Time: 9.00 a.m.

    c) 7.5 km Race:
    Start Time: 10.00 a.m.

  4. Participation rules
    To participate in the Spike and 18-km races, you must be aged 18 or over, and sign the relevant release form at registration.
    To participate in the 7.5-km race, you must be aged 15 or over; if you are a minor, your parent/guardian will have to sign the relevant release form.
  5. Medals – Cups
    5.1 Medals – Cups
    All runners who complete the races will receive a commemorative medal.  Cups will be awarded to the top 3 male and top 3 female runners in the Spike + 18 km and Spike + 7.5 km events.
  6. Cut-off times
    The cut-off time for finishing the 18-km race will be 3 hours.

    An official timing company is in charge of electronic timing for the Amorgos Trail Challenge races, and publication of the results. Therefore all participating runners will have to wear the bib and electronic timing chip they receive from the Registration Centre.
    Runners without a bib or chip will not be included in the race results.
    8.2 Results
    Unofficial results are published online as soon as the races are completed, thus allowing for the submission of objections within five calendar days. Official results are announced within ten (10) working days.

The Cyclades Trail Cup was established as an umbrella for the efforts of individual organizers in the Cyclades, for the creation of a series of trail running races with a common vision. The objective of the races is to promote the location in which they are held, and develop sports tourism as a whole.

The Cyclades Trail Cup took place for the first time in year 2016 and included three islands (Tinos, Syros and Andros) and 600 runners from Greece and abroad. Besides the purely sporting events it included, the Cup was able to promote the cultural and environmental heritage of the Cycladic islands, bringing runners to remote villages and their inhabitants, and introducing participants to the local gastronomy.

In year 2017, the Cyclades Trail Cup already includes six races, in Naxos, Amorgos, Syros, Andros, Donousa and Tinos. Read more about the Cup and its races at
